ALLEGED people smuggler Sayed Omeid will go to trial over accusations he organised for groups of non-citizens to be brought to Australia.

Mr Omeid appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court this morning via video link from Casuarina Prison.

Through an interpreter, the Iraqi man indicated he would be pleading not guilty to three counts of organising the bringing of groups of non-citizens into Australia.

Mr Omeid was extradited to Australia from Malaysia in November last year.

At the time of his deportation, Operation Sovereign Borders commander Lieutenant General Angus Campbell said Mr Omeid was linked to three boats carrying more than 760 people which travelled to Australia in 2001.

Mr Omeid will appear in the Perth District Court on December 5 for a trial listing.
