Government tough on the wrong people

It is with a heavy heart that I express my regret about the deportation of people smuggler Abu Quassey to Egypt rather than bringing him here to face his victims of the SIEV X and receive the long prison term he so richly deserves.

This Government repeatedly maintains that it is tough on people smuggling, but the reality is that it is tougher on asylum seekers, while the criminals like Quassey walk free.

Ruddock, Ellison and others did not try to have this man extradited - I don't think they dared. For Sondos, Zeinab, Amal, Faris and the three other survivors, I am so sorry - we tried so very hard.
