ABU QUASSEY EXTRADITION

Australian authorities must prepare to intercept alleged people smuggler Abu Quassey after Indonesia has signalled it will extradite him.

Indonesian Justice Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra has told reporters that Abu Quassey will be flown to Egypt this week.

'Abu Quassey organised the ill-fated and grossly overloaded SIEV X which sank in international waters,' said Daryl Melham, Shadow Minister for Justice and Customs.

'A total of 353 lives, mostly women and children, were lost.'

'Australia has issued four warrants for Abu Quassey's arrest. '

' The AFP and Interpol must act when Abu Quassey leaves Indonesia so that he can be brought to justice. '
